Putter only Weekly? No notice...

Postby Billym » Wed Nov 02, 2011 12:01 pm

Last Sunday the TD for the weekly changed the format and made the hole round "Putters only". You needed to use only discs that were from the Putt & Approach category.
The interesting thing for me was I carry 4 Wizzards; two seasoned that I putt with, one used that I used for upshots and one new/stable for those more stable needs, so I was pretty set up for the round. Others had only one or two putters and didn't really use them for anything but putting. I played pretty close to my average actually two throw higher.

One thing I got out of it all was I may want to get a Pig or two. As far as "putters" go this thing will take a lot of power and torque and is of course quite stable. It would be a great addition to my regular putter set up as I could use it for a lot of stable upshots and drives.

So if you had a putter only round "sprung" on you would what is in you bag carry you through the whole round?
The other question is; if you knew it was going to be putter only and you could take all of your drivers and mids out and use the space to add more putters what would you add?

For me my 4 Wizards was all I needed but if I could I would add something like a Pig or a Zone that can take some extra power. Hell the Pig was almost like cheating.
Destroyer,Sidewinder,Firebird,Eagles,Leopard, Roc, Mako, S Wizard.

Sometimes I wonder why that Frisbee is getting bigger then it hits me.

i would fair well with what is already in my bag, but if i could set up an all "putt & approach" bag

star dart (long range)
pro pig (headwind)
dx wedge (roller)

p2 (stable) *currently in bag*
p2 (neutral) *currently in bag*
yeti (flippy) *currently in bag*
star BB (overstable) *currently in bag*
its a game of mistakes. whoever can make the least amount of mistakes wins.

One Basic JOKERi for wind and 3 mediums IONs for everything else, one new clear medium (DGR), one re-tooled opaque (mainly a backup for the clear one, since it's blue and indeed pretty darn clear), and an older textured one.

The putters from my regular bag would work well, though I'd probably toss a newish heavy wizard in there too, for driving. The soft 175 is one of my favorite putting putters and I'd hate to have something bad happen to it.

esp zone, 172g
soft wizard, 175g
soft wizard, 168g
opaque retooled medium ion, 165g

I'd be Ok. I carry...

Swan - Putts and approaches < 100
Grip Pure - Approaches and drives
Premium Jokeri - OS duties

I play rounds with just those 3 once in a while anyway.

My normal set-up would probably cover me well...174 textured Ion (putting), 165 retooled Ion (long putts, drives), 175 Grip Pure (touchy approaches, turnover/flip-up drives) and 174 Prem Jokeri (stable-overstable duties, windy drives, short strong hyzers). If given notice, I might throw in another Ion...a 174 retooled Medium for the same type of shots I use the 165 for, but when I need a bit more stability or faster drop at the finish.
in the bag: pd2 / destroyer / orion lf / sidewinder /eagle / teebird / rancho roc / fuse / ion / jokeri / wizard

175 textured ion (long drives, straight / annie shots)
175 KC BB Aviar (putting , nose up approach shots)
i bag both of these, they would cover most of what i would need provided its not too windy that day.

175 Rhino (wind / overstable)
i dont actually carry a rhino and instead just powerdown a gator *slightly* for this shot. but my friend uses a Rhino and givin the opportunity i would love to try one out for a round where im *forced* to use it.

as of a month ago i carried 5 wizards, one oldschool floppy burrito supersoft for putting, a firmer supersoft for straight teeshots, a 160 soft that was beat up for turnover shots, a gummy hpp that was getting beat for teeshots with a bit of fade and approach duty, and a firmer hpp that was the meathook wiz.

i've managed to lose both hpp wizards in the past few weeks and just picked up an e wizard that feels like star plastic. i'm also breaking in a 163 glow wiz that will serve as my turnover backup. ideally i want to pick up another gummy hpp, but i'm pretty happy with my wizard assortment. all in all i can say that i use them all throughout the course of the round. i know a lot of dudes around here that only carry 1 or 2 putters total in their bag. they'd probably be screwed in a surprise putter only round.

shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit... the two courses I play the most down here I throw mainly putters. we actually had an Iron Man tourney at the end of the summer (one disc only). on a lark I threw a Magnet. I out drove everyone on my card and didn't play outside my usually shittiness.

The last round I played I had in my bag 2 pures, a Rhyno, a Zone and a Polecat. If I had to do a P&A's only round I would be fine.

That is funny to hear Keltik. I got down to the course I think you are talking about last summer and everyone gave me a hard time when I played with just a wizard in the intermediate division and scored better than everyone in the open division. The tournament that year was unsanctioned and each division payed cash to the players of that division. Open had only four entrants and intermediate had 20 or so. I think I won a cool 180 or something. Good times. They told me I wasn't allowed to play intermediate anymore :-). Actually, that may have been two years ago.
