The word around was that the 44 was a little less overstable than the Viper. The big Viperheads I knew (which in the early 90's was everybody who played disc golf) hated the 44's. They wanted something that was more overstable like the Metalheads and wanted nothing to do with something less overstable like the 44's.

Maybe the flight rings makes it less stable?

Or maybe it was all in our head. At any rate, the 44, 78 and 77 were all supposed to be less stable than their Innova counterparts. The speculation always was that the flight rings were the reason, but it might have been something else altogether.

Were the flight rings proper raised ones or just grooves in the disc?
